A family-owned estate producing wines with expression
Located in the town of Negrar just outside Verona in Italy, Tenuta Santa Maria is now in the hands of the 6th generation to manage this estate. The family-owned property combines traditional methods, modern technology and decades of experience to create some of the most authentic wines from the Valpolicella region.
The Bertani family have been growing grapes and making wine in Valpolicella since the 15th century. In 1900 they were among the first to create ‘dry recioto’ using the method we call Ripasso. Villa Mosconi, the villa where Giovanni and Guglielmo Bertani now manage the estate together with their mother, is closely associated with the invention (or rather discovery) of Amarone.
Tenuta Santa Maria is one of the few properties where grapes for appassimento are still dried on wooden racks. The traditional Valpolicella varietals are grown in an enchanting walled vineyard which is currently transitioning to organic status. A second vineyard lies to the east in Soave.
VinAccessGlobal and Tenuta Santa Maria have been working together since 2020 to develop distribution in some of the top Italian restaurants across Singapore.

Amarone della Valpolicella
A prestigious wine of unique character which gives full expression to the Veronese winemaking tradition. The Bertanis flagship wine.
Valpolicella Ripasso
A wine of great complexity and elegance obtained from three varieties of indigenous grape —Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella. Ripasso shows intense ripe fruit
obtained from the semi dried grapes that spend 3 and ½ months from harvest till December drying in wooden racks in the attic.
Valpolicella Classico Superiore
Aged for at least 14 months in traditional large oak barrels – ruby red with intense ripe cherry and berry flavours. Classic Valpolicella has freshness and warmth, velvet texture and gentle tannins.
Decima Aurea Merlot
Aged for 14 months in oak barriques, Decima Aurea is 100% Merlot of which half spends 4 weeks of appassimento before fermentation providing intense red colour and complex body with notes of black fruits and spices.
Torre Pieve Chardonnay
A well-structured and complex wine – part-fermented in new oak barriques. On the nose we find tropical fruit and toasty oak. The palate is generous with dried mango and pineapple hints overlaid with spice and toast. Clean acidity balances the rich fruit beautifully.
Lepiga Soave
The Soave is 100% Garganega grown at the Lepiga vineyard. The wine has both freshness and depth with rich lemon curd and lime flavours over a gentle acidity. Intensity of fruit is achieved by harvesting the 50 year old wines in three stages to ensure complete ripeness enhanced by lees ageing after fermentation.
Pràgal
A blend of fresh and slightly dried Corvina, Syrah and Merlot grapes from low yield vines creates a delicious, easy to drink wine full of cherry fruit. After fermentation and extended maceration, the wine is aged 6 months in barrel. Pragal is a unique style and offers fantastic value for money.
