A family-run estate producing beautifully natural wines
Located in Krems an der Donau, (north west of Vienna) in Austria, Rainer Wess is a family-owned, organically farmed vineyard producing a range of regional, village and single vineyard wines all based on Riesling and Gruner Veltliner.
Although no organic certification appears on the labels, the family strives to produce wines as naturally as possible resulting in wines that display a degree of clarity, intensity and minerality that is guaranteed to delight.
The vineyard sites are scattered across the Kremstal region which was formerly considered part of Wachau and represents around 5% of Austrian wine production. Rainer Wess has vineyards on both Steiner Hund and Pfaffenberg, commonly regarded as Austria’s top vineyards for Riesling (which is usually planted at the top and bottom of the steep loess slopes, with Gruner Veltliner sandwiched in the middle).
VinAccessGlobal and Rainer Wess have been working together since 2022. Currently their portfolio of wines are available in Singapore with stocks shortly arriving in Thailand.

Rainer Wess Wines
Rainer Wess offers a broad portfolio of wines all made with “a matter of feeling”
Kögl
Grüner Veltliner
Subtle perfumed nose with hints of citrus; rich ripe fruit in the mouth against the steely acid backbone, generous mouthfeel and long powerful finish. Simply wonderful wine.
Loibenberg
Grüner Veltliner
Complex nuts and fruits on the nose; on the palate hints of mango and apple against firm mineral acidity. Tremendous power, perfect balance and very long finish.
Gemischter Satz
Gemischter Satz is a field blend, an Austrian tradition of fermenting all varietals from a vineyard together. The wine has an almost nutty character on the nose with ripe stone fruit on the palate despite being bone dry.
Pinot Noir
Rich earthy, savoury nose with hints of red fruits. On the palate the fruits predominate and the tannins are soft and silky. Delicious and elegant.
Pfaffenberg
I tasted a tank sample of 2020 and noted: Intense ripe fruit over crisp acidity in perfect balance in a bone dry wine that lingers in the mouth.

A few words from Alison, VinAccessGlobal Founder
“Before I met Rainer Wess at Prowein in May 2022, I had researched Gruner Veltliner producers to create a shortlist of the very best wineries to approach. I was absolutely over the moon to taste through the whole range with Rainer and find that the reviews I had read were spot on – the wines are delicious with impeccable balance and are simply wonderful. The business, which started in 2003, is a family affair and I was also able to meet Rainer’s delightful daughter Christina and her husband David. At that meeting we agreed to work together to expand distribution.”
A few words from Rainer Wess, Owner of Rainer Wess

“I think we can say, that even though we do work together only short time so far – and as you mentioned already – we started not in a perfect environment, but very efficient!”
“Quick in one way but also working now with one of the best options in Thailand as I understand is just a great job you’ve done!”
“We do feel we are in best hands for whole Asia and are looking forward to a bright, near future in these markets. We are convinced because we see your experience and knowledge of the markets and obviously you determine quickly what client and type of wine could be a promising couple.”
